AP Psychology effectively banned in Florida because of gender, sexuality chapter
Gender and sexual orientation have been a part of the AP Psychology curriculum for the past 30 years.
Last year, Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is running to be the Republican nominee for president, signed HB 1557, a measure officially known as the Parental Rights in Education act but derided by critics as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. The law outlawed instruction on sexual orientation or gender identity in kindergarten through third grade. This spring, the law was expanded this year to 12th grade.
The AP Psychology section under scrutiny is unit 6.7, which discusses gender and sexuality and includes the definitions of gender, sexuality, gender roles and stereotypes and their socialization factors.
It's not the only College Board course targeted by DeSantis' administration. Earlier this year, Florida rejected the College Board’s AP African American Studies class, alleging it violated state law because of topics such as Black Lives Matter, Black feminism and reparations.
Florida's “Stop WOKE Act” restricts how race is discussed in schools, colleges and workplaces and prohibits any teaching that could make students feel they bear personal responsibility for historic wrongs because of their race, color, sex or national origin.
The AP class still has not been approved to be taught in Florida.

If the Florida College Board buckles under this pressure, every college that bends to DeSantis' ego trip should have their college accreditation revoked. These degrees will be utterly worthless in the real world.

All because you don't have these problems and so you have the attitude of "F--- the people who do." ALL of the beneficial aspects of psychological treatment have to be taught in a psychology course, not just the ones you people find "comfortable". You people on the right have even gone so far as to support gay discrimination, after such huge strides have been made towards wide societal acceptance of gays.
We have to go back to an era when people cared about others and their problems, even the ones we have no experience of. Your spiritual leaders (far-right politicians) have done you no favors by stoking your fears towards "the other". We need to help each other, and yes, that includes "the other" that you have been indoctrinated to fear and hate, all because they have a different agenda than you. One that includes making lives better, not worse because they are different from you. Unlike they keep telling you, you do not, in fact, have to hate or fear "the other" just because they're different.
Sit down sometime and listen to some John Lennon and get your heads straight. "All You Need is Love", "Give Peace a Chance" and "Imagine", for starters. Please.

EoT - I - and most people, believe that gender dysphoria exists. So does erectile dysfunction. Should we
teach that in our schools too? And what about fetishistic disorder, do we teach that in the schools? and the list goes on.
We are not saying that these disorders are not significant, just that closing classroom time to make students aware is a waste
of classroom time and deprives the student of spending time on subjects that can shape the child's future in a meaningful way.

I learned these things in first year psychology classes. Removing actual psychology facts from an AP Psychology class is criminal. Those students start so far behind. This is why no one wants butt-hurt Ron DeSantis crippling the education of students.
