As my wife pointed out to me when this story broke (as if its important compared to other issues in the world today), when SouthWest first started up as a airline, the flight attendants wore racy, revealing outfits. An obvious ploy to lure male businessmen from other airlines.
Don't generally care for lawyers or lawsuits, but I hope she sues them for a bundle and wins
Is she really a victim and does this merit a lawsuit?

Jebus...it's not about not offending muslims!

Large sections of the US has for years been a bunch of complainers about sex. Wake up, this has been going on for years in the US and is largely from the Christian right.

haha, come on DSR, even a 5th grader can name vast resource disparities between africa and the US.

But the number one is agriculture. No food = no prosperity.

Ease down Mein Fuhrer...

You're suggesting that immigrants are coming to America because of our Protestantism? Most immigrants keep their own faith and culture.
They're here for the cash, which has little to do with Protestantism, and a lot to do with economic philosophy and the industrial revolution.

It's no secret that America is embarrassed about sexuality. Lets not compound the problem by bragging about it.

US is in a temperate climate, Africa is tropical. In 1776 there were far fewer people in North America than are in Africa today. AIDS and other diseases (related to climate) have also been brutal on the Africans. In addition, the dynamics of slavery in Africa are far different than they were in the US. Slavery of Africans by Americans is a different phenomenon than slavery of Africans by Africans.

Protestant culture is a brutally powerful economic machine, I am not arguing with that. However there's way more to the picture than just a strong work ethic.

Colonialism also screwed up Africa. Everything was being shipped back home, so infrastructure was not fully developed. That is, they were getting copper from Zimbabwe (I think) - why set up copper mines anywhere else? The colonists in America were the ones who ended up running the show in the new country and cutting loose from England, so they set up their economy for their own benefit. The colonists in Africa never turned on England so they never had incentive to set up infrastructure that benefitted the locals. The intellectual capital in the form of trained engineers, etc did not have a stake in local affairs either so these guys trickled away instead of having roots in Africa like the colonists did in America.

I doubt the vast majority of 5th graders could do that.

There's no debate here.

Who owns the airline?

They set the conditions.

If they wanted to make everyone wear one of those sacks muslim women wear, so be it. You then decide whether you want to support their business by flying with them.
I agree with this post, but I'd like to make a small addition. The rules set by the airline should be clear and somehow communicated to anyone who wants to buy a ticket.

From the article provided

"The San Diego Union-Tribune called Southwest Airlines and asked if the airline had a dress code. Could, for example, a woman board wearing a bikini top?

The newspaper on Tuesday quoted the Southwest agent it spoke with as saying, “We don't have a problem with it if she's covered up in all the right spots. We don't have a dress code.” "

Now, the airline doesn't even have any rules about clothing and yet they almost denied service because of how she was dressed. This isn't big enough a deal to start lawsuits over (as she allowed on the plane), but the airline did make a mistake.

What percentage of College grads in USA can find Africa on a map?

5th graders naming resource disparities would be a stretch, me thinks.

An interesting article on the MSN homepage.

http://travel.msn.com/Guides/article.aspx?cp-documentid=423164>1=10422

"Have airline employees replaced high-school deans as the arbiters of appropriate dress, or have skimpily-clad passengers forced flight attendants to act like Mother?

...

"Last week, 23-year-old Kyla Ebbert said a Southwest employ ...[text shortened]... at would cause discomfort or offense to other passengers
.'"

Thoughts?[/b]
did read this all, but my 2 cents is that they always charge me way too much, took away food, put a shrieking baby on one side of me and either a fat person or a sick person on the other side... so i dont mind how someone dresses... not everyone can dress as slutty as the stewardess'...

so, opinion is dress however you may...

Uh, yes, HIV is a mutant of SIV which came from primates in tropical Africa. It's been in Africa longer than anywhere else, and it spread mostly along the tropical latitude into southeast Asia.

No, I think Macswain was questioning what AIDS had to do with climate.. can you address that?
