An interesting article on the MSN homepage.

http://travel.msn.com/Guides/article.aspx?cp-documentid=423164>1=10422

"Have airline employees replaced high-school deans as the arbiters of appropriate dress, or have skimpily-clad passengers forced flight attendants to act like Mother?

...

"Last week, 23-year-old Kyla Ebbert said a Southwest employee pulled her aside as she was preparing to board a plane departing San Diego for Tucson in July and told her she was dressed too provocatively to fly on the plane.

...

"American Airlines claims the right to refuse to carry passengers for a variety of reasons including being drunk, barefoot, having an offensive odor or being 'clothed in a manner that would cause discomfort or offense to other passengers.'"

There's no debate here.

Who owns the airline?

They set the conditions.

If they wanted to make everyone wear one of those sacks muslim women wear, so be it. You then decide whether you want to support their business by flying with them.

I thought restaurants and employers were allowed to enforce dress codes on their property, why not airlines? I think even some hotels and other service industry companies enforce dress codes as improperly dressed guests may cause other guests/customers to be offended.

I suppose the excuse in this case is that it might cause conflicts on the plane as some passengers might not approve.

Just another embarrassing example of America's puritanical heritage.
Laughable and sad.

The girl was dressed as a strumpet, plus, she had no modesty to offend, since she already works as a Hooter's waitress and has a trailer park MLF for a mother who cheers her on for her immodest sartorial selections.

America's puritanical heritage has made us the wealthiest, greatest nation in history as well as the envy of the world. If that's so "laughable and sad," then why do so many people risk life and limb every year to immigrate here, legally and illegally?

Vast untapped resources without significant native opposition probably helped. So did the unpaid slave labor.

As my wife pointed out to me when this story broke (as if its important compared to other issues in the world today), when SouthWest first started up as a airline, the flight attendants wore racy, revealing outfits. An obvious ploy to lure male businessmen from other airlines.
Don't generally care for lawyers or lawsuits, but I hope she sues them for a bundle and wins

Three cheers for you Wajoma!!!

Capitalism always works when it's not fiddled with. If the airline looses customers, they may start issuing bikiini's to female patrons. If patronage increases they may require neck to ankle garments. 😏

Many I have spoken to reason the cause for backlash against the airline is this is seen as pre-emptive action to avoid offending Islamists. I haven't joined that opinion yet, but can see logic in this as a possible motive for this unusual action. 😕

Africa still has vast untapped resources and slavery -- why the disparity?
