You need to be more specific than that. Why is murder wrong? Because of the consequences of murder. The fact that you are taking of someone's life without their consent. Also the pain it causes to their friends and family and all the people it would effect.
There are exceptional circumstances for the greater good though. For example, if you could go back in time and kill Hitler before he rose to power, knowing what you know now. Would you do it?
Laws were written by human beings based on morals, not some devine entity. The majority would make a lot of sense, but there are some ridiculous ones from way back in history.
