I agree with you ivanhoe. It's appalling that some would hold views like this:
"let (man) have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth."
Why do we need "dominion"? Why can't we treat ecological cycles and chains (of whic ...[text shortened]... d reason to value humans is a good reason to value the natural cycles that sustain humans.
We should treat the animals according this God given responsibility with the respect they deserve as creatures of God. After all, the animals of the earth are called our brothers and sisters in God's Word.

Why is it ok with you that animals get treated cruelly by humans? In the animal world, each animal takes what it needs to survive. Also, left alone, each species comes into a dynamic equilibrium with its environment. Killing is necessary and even benefits the greater good. But this excessiveness that we celebrate is grotesque.
