Sorry to hear about your family member do that (and I did consider that their would be someone on the site who had had that happen. I almost didn't post it for that reason). I agree that it is a selfish act. But if you were in war and were constantly being tortured by the enemy because you were captured, could you justify it.
I agree with you about the illegality of it. If you want to do it, I guess you have the right to do it.

Committing suicide is without a doubt a very selfish thing.
And anyway, most people who commit suicide suffer from depression- which is an extremely excrutiating pain. While I do believe suicide should be prevented, I dont think it right to described suicide as selfish (especially when the suicidee cannot really be called rational) or for it to be legal.

Basically, you will not feel guilt if you are successful, as you will be dead, so those people that say, think about your family if you do this, are just trying to make you feel guilty at the time as you wont feel guilty after the event will you?lol
When people hear that they do feel abit of guilt but at the end of the day if you want to die then thats what you should do, nopoint living a miserable and unfullfilling life is there?
