Are the Swiss racist or are they just taking their usual netural stance to the rest of the world ?

Having been to Zurich a few times, I did get the feeling that my money was welcome, but not me.

I am sorry you had that experience in Switzerland.
As for the swiss being racist, I know it is just as difficult for someone say from Germany to get citizenship as it is for someone from Africa.

I dont think the issue here is nationality. The report lists being a muslim and being disabled (or a burden on taxpayers) as the reasons.

I suspect many countries have discriminatory immigration practices. I have to say I cannot blame them for that. Basically if you want to live in a country other than your own then you have to show that you can be an asset to that country.

Having spoken to a ferw people when I sent their, I agree with the burden answer, but it did seem like the guys that where african / non-christian where not getting in (even if they worked and where productive) in the smaller town.

Knightwest, thanks for apology, its not your fault in anyway, but thank you

Nah. I don't find this to be the case at all. The only time in my travels to Europe that I have felt unwelcome is sometimes when visiting a big city. But I get that same feeling in New York so not much of a difference.

""They appear before a citizenship committee and answer questions about their desire to be Swiss. After that, they must often be approved by the entire voting community in a secret ballot, or a show of hands.""

""the case of a disabled man his application for citizenship was rejected by his community on the grounds that his disability made him a burden on taxpayers, and that he was Muslim.""

I cannot be the only one reading this who questions how the writter of this report KNOWS why the community voted this fellow down. Is the ability to read minds and hearts a common trait amoungst the Swiss?

Maybe the example used in the report is not 100 %, but you can't ignore the fact that the report was writtern by a swiss body.

And as I mentionde above, I have been to Swizerland a few times and do get the feeling my money is welcome, but not me.

Have you ever been their ?

No, the Swiss are not racists, they just see multiculturalism for what it is: a futile attempt to debase one's own culture to make hateful, ignorant, brutish people feel better about themselves and to assuage all the "White Guilt" liberals have.

Is that not riding on the assumption that all people of other cultures are "hateful, ignorant ,[and] brutish"? Anyone know how to spell 'xenophobe'? Oh look... there it is!

I've been to Switzerland and I never got that vibe. Perhaps it was my good looks. 😛

Conversly, I've been to Paris and felt that both my presence and my money were not welcome. Go figure?
