We condemn the assassination and the killing of an Arab holy warrior. We regard this as a continuation of the American policy based on oppression and the shedding of Muslim and Arab blood.

Hamas is a US enemy. The US did not make them the enemy.
edit: in case you're wondering, I've enrolled in tautology 101 this semester. Massive coincidence our lecturer for this session- sh76!

He clearly refers to UBL as an "Arab holy warrior." That also impliedly condones the London, Madrid and Bali attacks.
If you'll look at that link, you'll see that every other quote from every other country, including the PA and Pakistan celebrates and commends the death of UBL. That Hamas openly praises UBL is not merely about the United States; it is a condonation of UBL's methods (which is unsurprising, of course, given that Hamas has engaged in the same methods for decades).

I doubt that Hamas sees much difference between the US and the other Western governments insofar as their hostility to Palestinian resistance.
EDIT: Do you disagree with this analysis:
Although Hamas is clearly an Islamist movement, it is not as extreme as Al Qaeda and does not espouse a global jihad (holy war). Hamas has repeatedly stated that it is in conflict only with Israel, not the West at large.
Indeed, Hamas has already clashed with extremist Salafist groups in Gaza who share Al Qaeda’s philosophies.
Just last month, Hamas killed two alleged Salafi militants who had kidnapped and murdered an Italian peace activist in Gaza.

If memory serves, people were dancing in the streets after 9.11 all across the Middle East. Didn't that clue any of you in at that point where the US stands in the Middle East? Now some 10 years later, its the Us turn to dance in the streets. Of course, now they will have to retaliate, which the US will retaliate to that retaliation. The war has only begun.

It has been postulated that the statement is an attempt to appease more radical elements of Hamas who were displeased with the recent formation of the unity government. As a matter of internal Palestinian politics therefore it might not be so "stupid".
