The incoming tariff on tomatoes from Mexico......It would mean good news for our farmers. US growers say there is a problem, as mex tomatoes are cheap. We NEED a tariff. It is going to help the growers, NOT passed on to consumers. It kicks in on Monday, and our growers will be back on level ground.
This is the work of Trump. It took a few weeks, but in the end, the bad ended up good.
This was worth a thread, as I have noticed a lot of negative comments about the plans of Trump. This was a good plan. What will tomorrow hold.

So the cheaper supplier is removed, that means the price you have to pay rises. So of course even if growers in the US won't raise their prize (and they would be bad businessmen if they didn't rise to just under mexican prize + tariff) it will still be higher than the previous one. Consumer pays. Always.

With all the up down negotiation, are there tariffs in place significantly higher than before, that are now LAW that have not affected prices. And to what extent have prices not risen yet, because vendors stocked up with goods ahead of tariff increases and will only let the tariff increase prices once they replenish stocks?

@Mott-The-Hoople saidOk Sherlock. I followed your bipartisan link and it said gross tariffs raised 95 billion in revenue in the 6 months from Jan to June. Comparatively it is up against previous years for the same six months. And you claim this document is proof that what? Prices have not gone up? So the importers across the land have sent 95 billion to gov and all have swallowed the cost and not passed that on to the consumer. Is this your claim?

In fact tariffs are something paid on top. If vendors have enough stock they will sell that without raising prices as long as the competition won't.
As soon as they run out they can decide to earn less or raise prices. At some point the rise starts and then it won't turn back.
Lets wait and see.

I am not so smart, and not nearly as up-to-date as Sonhouse.
So I am left with a myriad syllogism of 'wait and see', to quote our leader.
His quotes such as that have all panned out so far, so I am leaning that the tariffs wil work out just fine. K and you lot can tussle when the gavel falls.
We will be chugging along on the train.
@Ponderable saidWe all go to school with every post. Yet, none of us know what we are taling about . But one person does. The guy in the WH, who was saying 20 years ago that tariffs would be the absolute, the key, to level all playing fields. That, any econ gurus wold get the upper hand with tariffs, and man, is he ever.

Just yesterday, he wrote key letters to many nations setting up the way it was gonna be with tariffs. As one learns in trial law, never ask a question if you do not already know the answer.
Your very smart and crafty president already knows what the responses will be, or .............follow me here....he would not have put himself on the spot of a wrong answer coming back at him. In other words, on this gambit, he has already won before he wrote the letters.
Sincerely AvJoe.
Here is the you tube of what he wrote. We learn daily on the Forum.
