Texas county plans to close entire library system rather than un-ban books
Llano County, Texas, is threatening to shut down its entire public library system rather than bring back banned books after a judge ordered them to do so. NBC’s Aaron Gilchrist has more on the culture war of these books ahead of a special meeting that will decide whether to close down the county’s libraries.
The books that Llano County officials removed from the library shelves include Isabel Wilkerson’s “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents”; and "They Called Themselves the K.K.K.: The Birth of an American Terrorist Group".
There is really no doubt who is on the wrong side of history, and who will ultimately lose. It's only a question of time, and how much shooting is going to happen.
The MAGA crowd is miserable, hateful, regressive, ignorant, sociopathic, ridiculous and embarrassing. It will lose. Throughout history, the factions that try to repress knowledge and turn back the clock always, always lose.
@soothfast saidYes, but as we've seen before, usually not until a lot of people get hurt.

@suzianne saidYeah, it's been said that "the cruelty is the point." That is, using the tools of government to hurt as many "undesirables" as possible, even in the name of causes that are clearly lost forever, is what animates the GOP base. They get their rocks off on it. "Own the libs" and such. Ultimately self-defeating, of course.

Frankly I'm surprised Texas has a library.

@thee saidYour post couldn't be more perfectly timed.
I've gone to the library in every town, city and country I have been in.
I check out books and pay my dues.
Can any of you leftist wannabes admit the last time you went to the library? Seriously, when was the last time you checked out a book at the library?
My library has a nice play area where I take my kids which I just came back home from roughly 20 minutes before this post. While there I checked out Booker T. Washington's "Up From Slavery".

@vivify saidThe solution: Privatise all libraries.
