Today, he gave the last of his 96 consecutive daily press conferences. Early on, they were all COVID. Lately, they've been more about the protests.
As I've said many times on this board, I have serious disagreements with many of his decisions. I think some have been catastrophic (the nursing home order and failing to shut down the airports in early March) while some have merely been bad (e.g., shutting down overnight camps and waiting too long to open upstate). I also think his "worst to first" thing is not fully honest, as we don't know how much of NY's decline is due to the sheer number of people who have gotten it.
Still...
He's been steady. He's been firm. He's been informative. He's been transparent. He tells you exactly what he's doing and why he's doing it and whether you agree with him is up to you. His daily pressers helped lower my personal anxiety levels in late March and early April and while his policies have not been perfect, there's no question that they've done some good. Also, with frequent understandable lapses, he's generally tried to keep the briefings as non-partisan as possible under the circumstances.
Like him or hate him (and I do some of both), he's a leader and we could use someone with these characteristics leading the country rather than someone whose idea of a press conference is a daily tantrum.
@sh76 saidHe is transparent?

He took personal accountability for mixing Covid patients with the old folk?
When was this?
And if he took accountability for their demise, should he not be in prison?
As bad as Trump is, all his supposed adversaries around him seem to do far worse.
@whodey saidHis decision was a tragic mistake, but it was based on a reasonable calculation. It was made at a time when we thought the hospitals would be overwhelmed. He was trying to free up hospital beds by releasing those who didn't need the hospital.

That it was a tragic mistake in retrospect doesn't make it a crime.
@sh76 said"He" didn't even know it was going on. "He" is on video turning to his advisor in complete confusion. Please watch it. [1] Again, politicians are figure heads...they are only "running the show" appearance, or when someone needs to take blame.

@sh76 saidI see, so he was trying to free up hospital beds for a Pandemic by sending them to places where the elderly could be overwhelmed and die instead.

Now it all makes sense. Thanks for that.
So the buck stops where exactly? Where is the accountability?

There are better qualified folks to lead the country than Cuomo, but I can go along with this.
@mchill saidWell he does have a "D" by his name, so how can you hate the man?

@whodey saidYour priceless Trump’s Covid denials and lockdown prevarication and resistance cost thousands of lives, but hey he’s your guy so fek the dead, he simply doesn’t have the nuts that Cuomo is carrying.
