Defying the Trump administration, the Senate agreed overwhelmingly Wednesday to expand sanctions against Russia for meddling in last year’s presidential election. This bipartisan deal prohibits the president from rolling back sanctions without Congress’s approval.

No matter what side of the partisan fence you sit on, your right to choose your lawmakers should be yours alone, and should not be manipulated or influenced by another country. It's nice to see that amid all the partisan gridlock and disagreement, our lawmakers can come together and do the right thing when it counts. Thank You Senators! 🙂

Amusingly, several European countries that are heavily reliant on imported Russian gas, particularly Germany, Austria and the Netherlands, have voiced concerns about the new U.S. sanctions, because they would potentially lead to penalties for European corporations such as Royal Dutch Shell. If Europeans cannot import Russian gas anymore it would not only be bad for Russia, but it would make them more reliant on more expensive gas imports from the U.S. (that is, shale gas producers in the U.S. stand to benefit). If Trump fights these sanctions I'm definitely stocking up on popcorn.
