So the U.S. has recently claimed they are putting 50 billion to industrialize Iraq. This spells doom for Iran and the ultimate, final success for the U.S. A good thing? Depends on who you are. Not if you're Iran, obviously. Who else? Unfortunately, many don't realize that Iran's demise will also spell doom for many countries. The U.S.'s "greatest threat", one of the few countries to stand up to the U.S. An admittedly unstable president. But what does a president even mean, especially one who wins a rigged election with the support of the most powerful religious clerics? With time, Iran could have become a democracy, the seeds were already being planted. A U.S ally, and the U.S. will create a friend and hold a much stronger worldwide view. But that is done, there is nothing that can be done about that. So I won't bother discussing what may have been.

Instead, I will discuss what will be. The fall of Iran will also lead to the fall of Pakistan, India, all the Middle Eastern countries excepting Isreal, and will cause Russia, China, Muslim states in general, and European states excepting England, though many of these states may and probably will be caught unawares. Why will they fall? Because there is nobody left to stand up to the U.S. Because Iran is the leading example of a growing power and peoples who have pride, and with them will fall these ideals. Russia, China, and European states have nothing to gain but everything to lose. Another U.S. success, but that means that these states will lose influence. They don't want Iran to fall; it's their markets that will collapse, not the U.S. Is there anything to stop that now? Perhaps. Only if people see the truth of what is happening.

To come to my original point. Why is the U.S. investment in Iraq the fall of Iran? Well, the Soviet Union can answer that. The U.S. began trade with Japan, South Korea, Europe, opened talks and trade with China, India. In short, economically tying all countries around the Soviet Union to the U.S. When the Soviet Union was unable to sell their products to anyone, and unable to buy from all these countries producing their products, it collapsed. And then, only then, the U.S. went and opened talks and gave aid to Russia. Now Russia joins many others in being economically dependent on the U.S. and effectively a weak state with no real power. And so the same is coming to pass in Iraq. As soon as the violence calms down, the U.S. will invest in Iraq, make Iraq the next South Korea. Iraq will produce cheap and effective goods, as will Afghanistan, become tied to the U.S, and sell their products to countries more easily than Iran. And who can Iran trade with and sell to? Iran will effectively collapse, and spell doom for all countries previously mentioned and more. I can only hope that in the nation of freethinkers and freedom, that someone will realize and point out the danger and threat to the ideals that founded America, before the U.S. becomes the next Empire to rule and fall.

If what you say is true, it makes you wonder why Iran is so preoccupied with Israel. Make no mistake about it, Israel is much more hated than the US. In fact, you might make an arguement that the US is hated mostly for supporting Israel. Crazy huh?

You may disagree but this truth hit home after the last tsunami hit the Far East and most if not all had strong Islamic influences who were ravaged by the event. Countries from around the world poured in money and aid to these countries including Israel. All aid and man power were accepted except...........you guessed it, Israel. Israel was told to keep their money and go home. The money and man power from the US was welcomed with open arms, however.

Excellent post! But please do not refer to the United Kingdom as England. Whether it is a thoghtless slip or a kind of mild condescension (to use the wrong name for a country as if it is of no concern to you) , it doesn't really matter. In the context of such a thoughtful post I do not believe for one moment that is anything other than an accidental oversight. England is not a 'state' and it is only a 'country' in terms of sport (the U.K. is the only coubtry in the world to send 4 teams to the soccer World Cup!) For all intents and purposes England is a 'province' of Great Britain and also of the (slightly different entity) United Kingdom.

Captain, economic success comes from two things :
PRODUCTION AND TRADE. You make, you sell. Thats it. Many countries have not figured that out yet. Or they are obsessed with other things they consider to be more important.

The Soviet Union failed because it was unable to do either of those 2 things successfully. The fact that the US was able to forge successful working relationships with the countries around the USSR, and USSR could not, does not make the US evil as you seem to imply.

Is your conclusion therefore that Iraq should not accept $50B in aid becasuse Iran and others might be affected?
And Europe, Japan, India and China were wrong to develop ties with the US because it was going to harm the USSR?

What exactly are you trying to say?
Or what do you want the 'freethinkers' (whatever that is) to do?

Is it just me or is the notion of a card carrying 'freethinker' a bit of a contradiction of terms

Considering the recent departure of Bush's long time brain Karl Rove, and his genius in politicizing and successfully lobbying the Christian vote, which president were you actually referring to?

Iran's preoccupation with Israel with a mistake. I agree entirely. In fact, it's quite a shame; Iran's most natural ally in the region should be with Isreal against the common enemy: the Arabs. For the Arabs are the true enemy of Iran, trying to steal their lands and impose their "dominance" over both Israel and Iran. I wholeheartedly support an Iran-Isreal alliance, or at least for them to be neutral towards each other.

I'll remind you that it was the U.S. who originally broke economic ties with Iran and set ever increasing sanctions on Iran for almost 30 years.
