Should we call our Congressman?
An even greater problem with ethonal, is that it uses an enormous amount of water to grow corn. The midwest water tables are already dangerously low. This type of alternative bio-fuel is just not sustainable

Ethanol increases global warming, destroys forests and inflates food prices, says Michael Grunwald. So why are we subsidizing it?

Burning food for fuel is like burning money to keep warm. It has nothing to do with combatting climate change. It's about making corn producers a tonne of cash.
I'm surprised you are against such a right wing, job-creating industry as the ethanol industry dsr.....well done.

Yes you should !
Bio-ethanol is such a poor excuse for not doing something meaningfull about our overconsumption of fosile fuels.
Originally posted by der schwarze Ritterthere is only so much oil in the ground, we will eventually run out...period. We need to find alternative energy sources, not more fossil fuels, something new and different.

This is the pet project of the Democrats -- Bush is an oil man.
"We've got to be aggressive about finding alternative sources of fuel. And one such source is ethanol. Ethanol comes from corn -- and we're pretty good about growing corn here in America, we've got a lot of good corn growers. Therefore, it makes sense to promote ethanol as an alternative to foreign sources of oil. Ethanol can be mixed with gasoline to produce a clean, efficient fuel. In low concentrations, ethanol can be used in any vehicle. And with minor modifications, vehicles can run on a fuel blend that includes about 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. Ethanol helps our farmers find a new markets and helps us replace foreign crude "

Are you saying Mr. Bush is a Democrat? Come on dude, just admit it. Ethanol production is about making farmers money. Nowhere does Bush talk about climate change. This is about money.

Here is the future. We don't need more oil. Just use it smarter. In less than 10 years most of us will be driving things like this..
http://www.thestar.com/sciencetech/article/410337
Here's the key info:
Fully charged, the Volt could drive about 40 miles without using any gasoline, and a small conventional engine would recharge the vehicle, extending its range and allowing it to get the equivalent of 150 miles per gallon. 0-60mph in 9 seconds. Total range with a full tank of gas..500 miles.
These are on sale in 2010 and will sell for approx 32K. Get in line.
