We can all find good and bad things to say about people we don't like. Do you know what I saw this past week that made me feel really good about civilization and society?
I saw political foes drawn together in a giant rain storm to join together for an "ideal". The ideal that we must put aside personal hate. We must join hands with people we don't particualarly like in order to exemplify the notion that when all the bickering and squabbling is done... we are all humans who want and need a civil society.
I felt chastened. I am resolved to be more civil. This in itself is a minor miracle.
And what better way or place than to join at the dedication of a library? Are not the bible and the library both repositories of who and what we are?
I think that the civillity shown by Ford,Carter,HW Bush,Clinton and W Bush gives reason for us to rejoice. If they can do it then so can I.
I just hope I don't fall off the civil wagon too soon. 😳😕

<edit> Ford was too old/ill to attend, but we got a nice message from him anyway.

Alas...it is but a library.

See. I have not lost my sense of humor. At best, it might work. At worst, Carter could get his second peace prize. Or "piece" prize depending on the state of his "head/Shoulders" upon returning from terror central.
I wonder what Bin Laden would ever find to discuss with the US. Any thoughts of that opening moment of greeting Mr. Carter?

"Ah...Mr. Carter...you have come to grovel at the feet of Allah? I invite you to supper...we're serving YOU!"
"Oh...peanuts!"
Scenario 2:
"Ah...Mr. Carter...I see *cough* that you come to talk *cough* instead of fight. That will be good for *cough* both our peoples."
"I am a wise man from the West. I bring you the gift of a new Dialysis machine."
Scenario 3:
"Ah...Mr. Carter...You come to talk peace? Yes?"
"No man... I'm the president...I'm here to smoke some of your crop! I've heard it's excellent quality"

Anyway, It would be an excellent thing to try. I'm a bit selfish for saying so though.

Originally posted by StarValleyWyI would love to believe that civility was behind this and I commend such actions, but I'm just to cynical to believe there were not ulterior motives. I do dream of a world where my cynicism is less affecting though.

But:
I have of late
felt less hate
so lets not underestimate
the power of debate
to change the state
of how I relate
let hate abate 🙂
