The ignorance which underpinned slavery?
Surely the commentator means “underpins”.

During slavery, I dare say, the people making money off slaves were far from ignorant. They were making money. If they were losing money doing what they were, they would have been ignorant (or something along those lines).

There are multiple reasons not to destroy heritage (like statues) ; without judging it good or bad.

The “woke” community, bless their souls, are very, very busy framing history and the problems within society as racist and stemming forth from slavery and the evil white man.

All well and good, except most problems within society don’t stem forth from racism and slave history. Racism, slavery and the poverty gap all stem forth from socio-economics. A small group of very rich people attempting to keep wealth within a certain circle.

And this constant framing leads to absurd actions. Actions which the (alt- ) right jump on and claim cancel-culture.
And even in the Netherlands I’ve witnessed this happening.

That even if the goals and aims are identical, if the framing isn’t to the liking of “the woke” they push to have it removed.
Not even argued against. Just removed.

And that, Duchess, is a serious problem.

Most Dutch people have nothing to do with the Durch colonial past.

A fleeting reference in history books. Nothing more.
