Taking the morning-after pill should be available to rape victims. Not according to VP candidate Paul Ryan, Akin, Mourdock, Ted Cruz, and many other GOP Senate candidates who believe in making abortion illegal with no rape exception. They want government to force the rape victim to give birth to the rapist's child against her will. It's also in the Republican Party platform.

The morning-after pill can act after conception. Indeed, it prevents a fertilized egg from implanting in the uterus. An abortion the day after conception.

What if it was your 13-yr old daughter who was raped? 44% of rape victims in the US are under 18.

It's God's will.
And you can't get pregnant from rape.
And open aeroplane doors if there's a fire on board.

I really don't see why people actually discuss right-wing American ideas.
They're obviously completely mad.

One of the most popular post-coital contraceptives, is one called Plan B. That one says on the box, that it wont terminate a pregnancy, only prevent one. That's only if it's taken within three days of sex.

Remember, sperm takes time to travel to the egg. It can take up to five days after sex, for conception to occur. So "Day-after" pills aren't abortion pills; in fact, like Plan B, many won't work at all if the woman's already conceived.

So for Ryan to object to the morning-after pill on grounds of abortion, is just proof of his, and the GOP's idiocy.

Maybe there time would be better served trying to pass a budget. They don't even have to come close to balancing it. How hard can it be?

What am I thinking? Instead, I think they should talk about gay marriage next.

I think that not only should the morning after pill be legalized, I think it should be mandatory for all Obama supporters to take them daily.

"The fastest sperm can get to a fallopian tube is about 30 minutes, meaning that the quickest conception could occur following sex is in the half-hour range [source: WebMD]. This means that, following sex, the egg could be fertilized before you've gotten up to get a drink of water."

There will be some problems with enforcement.

Of course, morning after pills can be banned and their possession and use can be criminalized, including bringing them into the country.

But regular oral contraceptive pills, at least some if not most formulations, can be used in multiple doses as morning after pills.

So oral contraceptives will have to be banned. Travelers into the US will have them confiscated.

Here comes the American Taliban!

Not true unfortunately. Plan B can interfere with implantation to the uterus after fertilization. Thus, while technically not an abortion in normal sense, it does end life if one believes life begins at conception (fertilization) and not when the tissue implants on the uterus.

Wasn't the former vice president Al Gore the one hunching on a hotel maids leg even after she told him she wasn't interested in a physical relationship with him. I didn't remember him as being Republican. One hell of an example for the Dems right there.

Well, even your link says it can take "five days or longer".

But my post was made with the belief that Plan B wasn't falsely advertising the fact that it won't terminate an existing pregnancy; another poster pointed out that's not correct. So since Plan B doesn't live up to it's claims, I have to withdraw what I said. Though I still believe the GOP's idiocy is quite apparent (Tea Party, Birthers, etc.)

OK, but just get your facts straight, or those opponents who can undermine your claims will seem to win, and make you look foolish. This is why those of us who are basically on the same side have to fact-check each other. You seem to have a limited knowledge of biological reproduction.

True. Though who's knowledge of reproduction is unlimited?
