While having a stimulating intellectual discussion with SVW which largely consisted on his end of insisting I "wanted Saddam back" (we never even dated though I did see him hug Donald Rumsfeld once). He was also insisting that my anti-war position made me a "commie". Thinking about it, I realized that many people in American history also held positions like mine i.e. position that wars are generally a bad thing for a country and that getting involved militarily overseas is a bad idea. Thus, our history is filled with "commies"! I decided to find some peacenik, isolationist quotes from various nogoodniks in US history and invite SVW to NAME THAT COMMIE. Unfortunately, he really sucks at the game, so I figured I'd open this thread so everybody can play NAME THAT COMMIE. I give you the quote at the end of the War and the US thread:
The fetters imposed on liberty at home have ever been forged out of the weapons provided for defense against real, pretended or imaginary dangers from aboard.
Now, NAME THAT COMMIE. And please feel free to share your own quotes in history from well known commies.

Good to see you take my mild chastisement about "lack of humor" to heart. You are trying. Good on you.

Who the hell is tom stephens? Care to explain him as a hero?

"The fetters imposed on liberty at home have ever been forged out of the weapons provided for defense against real, pretended or imaginary dangers from aboard."
Let's interpret this. Ok?
"The Fetters"... a fetter is a handcuff or a binding.
"Imposed on liberty" ... an outside source overpowers liberty.
"Have ever been"... always have been.
"Forged out of the weapons"... ok. Very rare. But It could be done. I guess.
"provided for defense against real, pretended or imaginary dangers".... hmmmm. No real meaning here. Is there? This is just jargon that sounds cool. There is no predication or assignment. It is empty.
"From Abroad".... we have to get in the skinny new york kids fear of the bully here.
"FROM GOD DAMNED ALIENS WHO BEAT US UP ON OUR WALK TO THE LIMO"?
Yea. That is about right.
"Handcuffs by aliens hurt and we need to fear!"
Ok. Wow
"I hate war as only a soldier who has lived it can, only as one who has seen its brutality, its futility, its stupidity."
"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed."
Both from that well-known commie, Republican President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
