@Indonesia-Phil saidThere's still unity to fight for. What's why they started fighting... The IRA is northern Irish, the south knows little of the past in the north.
Once upon a time....There were the poor Southern Irish and the rich Northern Irish, and the south wanted the north back. But now....Southern Ireland is (still) part of the EU, and thus benefits from EU investment; great roads, not many people and so on, whereas Northern Ireland is going down the pan with the rest of the UK, so, deep history aside (the potato famine and ...[text shortened]... h, work in the south etc) so there sort of is a border between the EU and Britain and sort of isn't.
The north was never seen as rich. Protestants in the north were seen as a higher class and were generally wealthier than catholics on the island. The flight was against that inequality which today, is thankfully mostly gone.
@Trev333 saidYeah, you're right, of course, I remember 'the troubles' well, and nearly got bombed in the Guildford bombings, we used to frequent one of the bombed pubs, but were on the other side of town. Nobody wants to go back to those times....
