I don't know. Maybe I'm naive, but I thought it was very good. I like how he hammered on the concept of personal responsibility and the need for students to take advantage of their opportunity by working hard. He also told the students that if they drop out of school, they're letting the country down (as opposed to the country having failed them, as many liberals would no doubt put it). He also focused on not blaming the system for what you do or do not have access to, but to work your hardest based on the hand you're dealt.
I listened closely for liberal propaganda, but alas, I couldn't discern any. I'm not sure I buy this "I got up at 4:30 AM every day to study" stuff, but that's neither here nor there.
Call me crazy, but if one just read the speech without knowing the identity of the speaker, one might think the speaker is... gasp!... a conservative!
Originally posted by sh76I fully believe the 4;30 bit, he has said this alot both in his book and on the campaign trail. The man is brilliant and hard working, wether you agree with his politics is an entirely different matter.

I too thought the speech was an excellent message for kids.

Second, he told the kids to get an education so they could help their country: this kind of collectivist focus is classic liberalism, and very much against the patriotic notion that we are in it for ourselves.
Originally posted by WulebgrI thought the part where he said, "Kids, rich people haven't put in one honest day's work in their entire lives. Let's soak them to pay for healthcare," was a little biased.

Originally posted by telerionI was also a bit disturbed when he unfurled a huge red banner featuring a picture of Lenin and Marx surrounding his own face, and declared that this would be the nation's new flag.

Go ahead and have your little laugh but the fact is Obama backed off due to concerned parents. The president felt the schools and parents don't tell their kids what they need to be productive citezens? Yea right, he had another speach. He is cut from the same cloth as Al Gore.

I don't know of a single mainstream liberal who would put it so tritely. I know (and know of) numerous conservatives who think liberals would though.

Excellent! The speech was obviously crafted well enough to hide the subliminal subversive liberal propaganda!!!! BWAH HA HA HA HA HAAAA!!!! Soon the children will be going home thinking that gay people deserve to be able to be married and that global warming is real!!
