Could one of our brothers or sisters familiar with the socialist states
please recommend which one is the best? We (not allowed to say "I" in the collective states) would like to move there if everyone else hasn't moved there already.....

With your permission, of course!

No, "we're" serious brother Del! Have had enough of getting paid what "we're" worth and having some modicum of personal responisiblity. "We" want to move somewhere (with the permission of the collective of course) where our brothers and sisters are responsible for us.

Please help! Which socialist state is the best? We are just dying to go there, kinda like the Mexican's in the boxcar's and the Cuban's on the homemade rafts coming to the filthy, capitalist, freedom loving U.S.

Oh wait....
Cuba= poster child for socialism, they must not be #1 on the list.

There are currently no states where socialism is in operation - its extremely doubtful whether it can exist in a single state.

What do you mean by "doubtful whether it can exist in a single state"?

There are those who think it's unsustainable anywhere!
Shame on them 🙂

Cuba has the best cigars. BTW, I'm serious about Michigan. After all, we already have a Canadian, socialist, female governor and a teachers union that guarantees your children will never be bothered with reading, 'riting and 'rithmatic. Experience true freedom from self as our Canadian, socialist, female governor lifts the burden of individuality from your aching shoulders.

You're darn right. The lone Republican on the Ann Arbor City Council just announced he will not seek re-election. The city will continue its status as the pre-eminent bleeding heart liberal paradise on Earth. Once we've chased that last dang-blasted Republican out of town we'll be a shining beacon to civilized people everywhere, completely unsullied by the vile scourge of conservatism.

But we're still not socialists. At least not enough of us, anyway.

For a single state to practise socialism, 'like an island in a sea of capitalism', is probably not viable. There would need to be a number such states, so that they wouldn't be dependant on capitalist countries for resources.

That's not to say you can't have a socialist government in power in a single state, but that's not the same as practising socialism.

Absolutely right!
Just look at the aggression aimed towards the Soviet block (which wasn't even communist, but State-capitalist) by the capitalist countries.
When workers get more rights, the bosses get scared they'll lose power and will do nearly anything to retain it.

One socialist state would just be crushed, before it started giving off wrong signals to the production units (read workers) in other countries.

In practise though, there's not likely to be a single state pushing for socialism while the rest of the world goes in the opposite direction. Much as I'd like to see an Independant Socialist Scotland, I'm not naive enough to think we'd have a snowball's chance if that wasn't alongside other, similar movements elsewhere (even in England, who knows).

Its much more likely, especially in these days of global communications, that there will be a movement in many places across the planet, with some nations being further down the road than others, towards socialist changes. These countries can then give support to each other (political, economic etc) against the inevitable attacks by the multi-nationals and their allies.

Sort of like the U.S.A. does in supporting democracy and freedom with it's bizillion dollars per yer (approximate figure) of financial aid to foreign countries, eh?

This must be part of a huge marketing campaign by the capitalists to gain "production units" and the rest of us freedom lovers are just fools who've been duped, no?

What's this could to do with the subject of the thread?

The US gives one of the lowest GDP percentages of any developed country in foreign aid. And the paltry amount you do give is with strings.

If you value the 'freedom' to work for someone else's profit, then you've certainly been duped.

Working for someone else's profit....hmmm, sounds like socialism to me.
Working for my union brothers and sisters, yes! Let's toil on in the name of the almighty collective!

It only sounds like socialism to you because you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.
