Most USAliens believe Bigfoot exists, the Earth is flat, the USA single-handedly won both World Wars and the Battle of Hastings, and some day wealth will trickle down.

I'd rather trust a piece of rock than "most Americans".

Susceptibility to propaganda has nothing to do with intelligence. It is human nature to accept a repetitive message from several different sources, even if it is absurd.
Repetition is not the only means used in propaganda. It is also important, what information is suppressed, how the information is presented, what terms and concepts are used, what logical mistakes are made, what false information is given, what evaluations are pressed, etc.
