The point being NATO is based on a commitment of mutual defence, one member does not get to decide what is and isn’t a threat. That’s a collective decision and the vast majority of NATO consider Russian expansion west as a threat for obvious reasons.

He was concerned about the emptying of nato member embassies as would any leader who was relying on the solidarity of those nato members to deter a full scale Russian invasion.

Once again his comments concerned the perceived draw down of embassy staff, it’s not a good look for those that are meant to have your back when you see them sneaking out the back door.
