What bugs me most down south is the shockingly bad housing, what gets called a 'studio' or a 'bedsit' I've said before if you put a dog in it you'd be breaking the law.

Scotland has stricter building regulations, I don't know what they are but they really pay off. Its a source of amusement regaling how atrocious flats are down south, how I could get £500 pcm for your bathroom.

The right wing parties that argue against immigration often have arguments round housing and its a really big problem in London. It so bad the Mayor should start putting down new laws on what's acceptable.

But in general the UK is better off with migrants I think. I worked for a big company and they hired loads of migrants and locals because the town they were based didn't have all the skills / languages they needed.

To be honest no...

Treaty of Paris of March 30, 1856 and the Special Convention
concluded between the Porte and Russia, and annexed to the said Article XIV,
are repealed and replaced by the following Article.

Why are you looking at these papers? Are they related to Romania?

I dunno, a lexical translation of the term la sublime porte? I just made it up, but i resent the way Duchess64 treats people who have no knowledge of a particular sphere, its naught but intellectual snobbery and I seriously loathe all forms of snobbery. It goes against all my egalitarian sensibilities and is anti-Scottish.

I still don't know what the treaty relates too? Duchess has a funny type of intellectualism, makes me chuckle.

I found this

La Sublime Porte: Voix d'Istanbul - Jordi Savall (Ottoman)

Music from Istanbul -

And this

Sublime Porte is the name of the gate of monumental honor of the great vizier to Constantinople, the seat of government of the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire.

This term was therefore often used in diplomatic language in the European governments to designate the Turkish Empire and the city of Constantinople, guardian of the straits.

makes sense 😀 rather interesting i have a friend who works in the French embassy in London, she was here about a month ago, I took her to Glen Nevis and we did the rope bridge etc, anyway, there was some old cannons dating from the 1500-1700's with some very old French written on them at Culzean castle which she was able to accurately translate, how they came to be in the hands of the Kennedys, I cannot say.
