In a nutshell, downplaying a pandemic he knew was deadly in order to put his own political objectives ahead of the pandemic.
Of course, we’ve all known this for months.
But it is significant to hear it out of his own mouth.
@mghrn55 saidIt’s not significant at all.

what did Trump distort?

Trump tweeted on Feb. 24 that the “Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA.” During a Feb. 25 news conference in New Delhi, he said the disease “is very well under control in our country,” and that “as far as what we’re doing with the new virus, I think that we’re doing a great job.”
On Feb. 26, Trump predicted that “within a couple of days,” the number of Covid-19 infections in the U.S. “is going to be down to close to zero.” And on Feb. 28, he said “it’s going to disappear … like a miracle.”
Trump compared the country’s coronavirus deaths to the flu’s annual death toll on March 9, noting on Twitter that “nothing is shut down, life & the economy go on.” On March 10, he urged Americans to “just stay calm” because “it will go away,” and he said again on March 12 that “it’s going to go away.”
@no1marauder saidA true leader, he kept the people from panicking. And it is going away, and we still have a robust economy.

@mott-the-hoople saidHe lied. His consistent lying about the severity of COVID contributed to the death toll.

It isn't going away; almost 200,000 are dead according to official figures. 1,181 more deaths were reported today. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/
8.4% unemployment, biggest trade deficit in history.
EDIT: Sorry, 3rd highest trade deficit in history. https://www.industryweek.com/the-economy/trade/article/21954013/august-us-trade-deficit-is-59-billion

@mott-the-hoople saidThe arrogance of this blowhard is amazing enough; the gullibility of you right wingers to believe every thing he says is even more astounding.

Contrary to the Donald and right wingers here, I don't think the American People are such simpletons that we need the President of the US lying to us about the severity of a deadly disease or we'll "panic". Indeed, Trump's consistent downplaying of the COVID threat was accompanied by repeated calls to do actions (i.e. early ends to lockdowns, etc. etc. etc.) that would lead to a greater spread of the disease and thus more fatalities.
So Trump's lies complimented his incompetent policies and were clearly not designed to avoid "panic".
@mott-the-hoople saidDid the American people panic on December 7th, 1941?

Did the American people panic on 9-11-01?
I think you and he have a poor opinion of the character of the American people.
@mott-the-hoople saidIt doesn't embarrass you in the slightest to be a shill for a liar and a sex offender?
