There’s something to be said about trump’s twitter asking for a date with the Chinese leader. Oh yes. That’s just bat-sht crazy.
But... what’s with the BBC’s use of the word moot?
I know two uses for it:
- “that is a moot point.” (meaning a pointless point, or arguably rubbish point).
- a meeting (as in the Ent moot in Lord of the Rings).
But, what the BBC means is:
- suggests an idea
From the article:
“US President Donald Trump has suggested meeting Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss the deepening political crisis engulfing Hong Kong.”
Is it just me or is someone taking the piss?
Why in hell would you use the word “moot” in that manner?
To make matters worse, I looked it up and it can be used like that (I seriously never heard it used like that before though). But even in their own bloody article they use the word “suggest” instead.
I reckon someone was over-enthousiastic with the thesaurus.
Or, are there parts of our ever-fading planet where it’s common to use moot, instead of suggest?
@shavixmir
Yeah, like a meeting between Chinese and American leaders would do anything.
Trump is so full of himself he doesn't know which way is up any more.
@sonhouse saidyeah lets not even try...just keep being enemies.

That is the title of the article.

Yes. You are entirely correct, my post now does seem like the ranting of a lunatic.
Haha
Damn!
@Duchess64
You really enjoy trying to put people down.
I thought it was very good that Nixon talked to China.
But there is a big difference between Nixon and Trump.
Nixon KNEW he had to have high class advisers AND listen to them.
Trump has only idiots in his cabinet, people I wouldn't count on to advice a divorce proceeding much less national security issues.
But besides that, even if Trump had the best of the best instead of what he has now, the worse of the worse, he doesn't listen to even them.
He listens to Rush Limberger and Fox News. THEY tell him what to do and he does it.
Besides that, his so-called love affair with Kim Jong Un is a farce.
Un is playing Trump for all he is worth and the same with Putin.
"He STRONGLY disagreed with the idea Russia interfered' and so forth.
What makes you think Trump talking to Xi will be any different?
Trump is not even CLOSE to being a real leader, he is a puppet and can't keep his mouth shut.
NK testing ANY kind of missile is against UN resolutions but does Trump care about that? No, no big deal according to Trump even though those short range missiles can reach SK and Japan.
What made you think I thought talking to the Chinese was a mistake?
You jumped to contusions there. I was thinking about the incompetency of Trump not putting down any kind of dialog with China.
Trump is too easily played, he has ZERO experience with world leaders.
He puts down NATO, called Putin and Kim Jong Un friends, doesn't care the Saudi prince murdered a reporter working for the Washington Post,
in short, in my mind he is a traitor. Pure and simple.
