I didn't click the link in the OP or hear that excerpt. But now that you've posted it, it does look like he was being sarcastic.

So i looked up the entire clip. Trump seemed to "praise" Putin but in the way you'd admire a diamond thief pulling off an elaborate heist. He didn't seem to be okaying the act, especially since he said "this would've never happened had I been there".

Looks like Earl is right on this one.

It is highly irregular for a former president to weigh in on foreign policy decisions. You don't hear Clinton or Bush or Obama popping up on the Ukraine issue. Only Trump. Trump simply can't bear not being in the limelight.

Division is just what Putin wants -- a divided America is easier to out-maneuver, or ignore.

Clinton and Bush were 2 term presidents. They could not seek another term after that. Trump can, because he is still just a 1 term POTUS. Clinton and Bush had no incentive to. No more terms for them.
