@sonhouse Merrick Garland has a tough decision. The article below is not the best on this but it's something. If Garland indicts Trump and either Trump is exonerated or the trial goes past the 2024 election, Trump might easily garner a legitimate presidential win given the gerrymandering and other voting restrictions red states are implementing. If Trump is not indicted, I am guessing a slim or significant majority of the public will be pissed off. Perhaps the DOJ will just let the public watch the House presentation and then let voters decide at the poles. Trump will run in 2024 and claim the House committee investigating January 6 was bogus because the DOJ decided not to act on their findings. If the Supreme Court steps in because an impartial jury cannot be found, they are likely to vote in favor of Trump. The House January 6 hearings are impressive. More impressive is the fact that Republican politicians are either supporting Trump and his lies or they are leaving politics. There appears to be no effort to start a third party based on traditional Republican values. I'm guessing many of the 900 billionaires in our country are funneling massive money towards Trump. I hate to be a pessimist, but I think 2024 will be the end of our democracy. Trump or DeSantis will win the White House. NATO and the UN will be gone. Congress will be red. Putin, the U.S. and China will divide up the world. Climate change will usher in more pandemics and great human migrations as people flee floods and famine. It's not a pretty picture.

Also as far as Europe goes Russia is a joke in terms of conventional forces and would not last a month against the European rump of nato. The real battle will be in the pacific with the US and it’s pacific partners going against China.
I fear the outcomes could be on an extinction level when one of these egos realises its going to lose.

There appears to be forces at work designed to get rid of humans, and if so, EARTH will recover after nuclear wars if humans don't. Maybe a few million years later some intelligent life form more amendable to peace will evolve. Or maybe a hundred million years. Bottom line is it seems humans don't deserve Earth.
