@spruce112358 saidMalignant narcissism ? Once you realise that Trump is in Putin's pocket, everything he does makes sense. Putin wants to destroy America (from within) because he knows he cannot match America's military on the battlefield. Putin is a dyed-in-the-wool KGB man; for him, the Cold War never ended: disinformation and hybrid tactics are stock in trade for the KGB. Putin and Trump are leading America down the primrose path to becoming a pariah state, losing all of America's allies, political turmoil, and economic collapse.
What motivated it? Malignant narcissism. All dictators are primarily motivated by the o’er-weening belief that whatever they think is absolutely right and should happen immediately. π
The belief that the Palestinians should be ethnically cleansed to “solve the conflict” is not uncommon in the US - the fruits of 80 years of propaganda.
Bombing Iran should be next. π
Mind you, I do not blame Trump personally for any of this. He's just the itch; no one was compelled to scratch. If any one person is to blame, it's Mitch McConnell; he had the power to confirm the first impeachment, and he failed miserably, although he knew then Trump was a loose cannon and uncontrollable. It's not as though the GOP would have lost the WH--impeaching Trump the first time would have put Pence in the WH, Pence was controllable, and there would have been no J6 insurrection. So blame Mitch, not Trump. Or blame the people who voted for Trump in 2024.
Trump, like Alcibiades, will be undone by his own character flaws and over-reach. Future historians will not be kind to Trump.
@moonbus saidI'm not so convinced this is all about Putin, although it is true that most dictators tolerate and support one another because they share methodology. π

Every society contains a certain proportion of fascists and Nazis - always. Eventually, with a steady enough diet of propaganda, they will slowly convince any electorate to 'give them another shot.' This campaign has been going on for 40 years, but the root goes back even further - to Roger Stone butthurt because Nixon was impeached. The project continued through Reagan and the Bushies - each Republican President worse than the last, the propaganda endlessly cycling and getting more and more extreme.
Liberals also got more extreme - no question about that, until it was all trans and delta smelt. Liberals were on thinner and thinner ice, ignoring straight white men - until they broke through. That unleashed the fascists who are on a rampage now. π

There is a cultural backlash in full swing, and Trump and Vance are the poster boys of troglodytism. When "liberty and justice for all" moved into women's lib, gay lib, Black people voting, a Black president, and men becoming women, it was all just too much too soon for some under-evolved people to stomach.
