Turkey is a member of NATO dont forget. The Kurds are up against serious political as well as military clout.
Would Turkey invoke the alliance in a war with them?

No, they should not. Moreover, they will not.

What about all those other states suckling at the teat that is CA and New York? The US economy would sink like a rock if New York and CA left.

Those states should never have been allowed to do that. It's another fine example of excessive federal power.

I'm not worried about the economy, the financial companies in New York would move and Silicon Valley would end up somewhere else.

BAGHDAD [MENL] -- The autonomous northern Iraqi region of Kurdistan has signed a security cooperation accord with the U.S.-led coalition.

The accord was signed on May 30 by Kurdistan President Masoud Barzani and U.S. commanders in Irbil. The accord stipulated the handover of coalition security responsibility to the Kurdish regional government in the provinces of Dohuk, Irbil and Suleimaniya.

"The Kurdistan Regional Government was deemed ready to assume security responsibility in the region," a U.S. military statement said.

The Kurds have had their stuff together for a long time from what I understand. They're certainly capable of maintaining order - at least in "Kurdistan".

I wonder how the Arabs will take this.

That's a good question. It looks like they just let the Kurds do their thing. They so far haven't learned from the Kurds example so I doubt this will do the Arabs any good either.

It's a great example of what happens when you get your crap together. Unfortunately, it will not be followed. The Shia/Sunni extremist crowd doesn't seem to care much about anything that's good for their countries.
