The UHURU Movement is a socialist group that is accused of sowing discord even though there is nothing illegal about sowing discord. It actually appears that the UHURU Movement is bringing people together instead of dividing people the way the corporate news media does.
Like Fred Hampton and the Black Panthers, they were doing good things for poor people and gained the trust of people with good policies community liked. Like free breakfast for children. No good deed goes unpunished so the establishment assassinated Fred.

The UHURU Movement is also called the Black Liberation Movement. The acronym is BLM, but since the Black Lives Matter movement that what you get in a BLM internet search. Nothing in the DOJ report lists anything illegal that they did.

Is the US government trying to punish people for "sowing discord"?
Sowing discord is not illegal. That is something they do in Russia, not here. I guess we are becoming more like Russia. That will teach them.
@metal-brain saidIt would, I reckon, depend on what sort of discord one is stimulating.

Should it enter the field of undermining government, infrastructure, public safety, then most governments will have a serious opinion about that.
And then it’s not “discord” which is being tackled, but public safety, etc.
I found this with a quick google:
"The Uhuru Movement has been accused by state prosecutors of collaborating with alleged Russian foreign agent Aleksandr Viktorovich Ionov to sow social divisions in the United States.[21] Members of the group have traveled to Saint Petersburg, Russia, to attend an anti-globalization conference, and the group has also acknowledged that it supports Russia in its ongoing invasion of Ukraine.[22][23] On July 29, 2022, the Uhuru House in St. Petersburg, Florida, was raided by the FBI due to an indictment by a grand jury alleging a conspiracy between Ionov and the Uhuru movement to spread Russian disinformation under the guise of domestic political movements. An FBI Tampa Special agent said that "The facts and circumstances surrounding this indictment are some of the most egregious and blatant violations we've seen by the Russian government in order to destabilize and undermine trust in American Democracy."[24][25] On December 23, 2022, the Uhuru Movement organized an emergency meeting via Zoom, stating that the APSP expected new indictments by the FBI and the Department of Justice "in early January 2023 and possibly sooner", for violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act.[26] On April 18, a federal indictment was unsealed alleging that the Uhuru Movement, including the founder of the African People's Socialist Party, worked on behalf of the Russian government to spread pro-Russian propaganda and influence local elections.[27][28]
@jj-adams saidNothing about that is illegal. There is no law prohibiting meeting Russians, even if it is to question the wisdom of US foreign policy. Undermining trust in American Democracy is perfectly legal and protected by the US constitution.

Seems to me this is an attempt to violate the constitution and turn our country into a police state. They want to throw dissenters in prison that did nothing illegal. The irony is that is what Russia does. They want you to hate Russia so you become more like Russia. Makes perfect sense to an idiot.
@metal-brain saidYou sure about that?

" a conspiracy between Ionov and the Uhuru movement to spread Russian disinformation under the guise of domestic political movements. "
Sounds pretty illegal to me.
@shavixmir saidDiscord is not illegal in the USA. It is protected under the 1st amendment of the US constitution. Undermining government is perfectly legal in the USA as long as it is not done by violence and nothing about discord implies violence.

Government's opinion does not matter if no laws are broken.
@metal-brain saidPretty sure spreading Russian disinformation to influence elections is illegal.

If it isn't it ought to be.
@jj-adams saidThere is no evidence UHURU was a puppet of Russia. You do not even know UHURU was spreading disinformation, let alone Russian disinformation.
You sure about that?

Spreading disinformation is not illegal. If it was government health officials and all of our high level politicians would be in prison for spreading disinformation. They all intentionally lie. It is only illegal of you lie under oath.
@jj-adams saidInfluencing elections is not illegal. I try to do that on a regular basis. Nobody locked me up. Russia had nothing to do with that, but what if they did? What if they influenced me to do it? It is not illegal for me to listen to the opinions of Russians and agree with them.
Pretty sure spreading Russian disinformation to influence elections is illegal.
If it isn't it ought to be.
You would have to prove the Russian government (not just Russian citizens) paid UHURU to specifically influence elections on their behalf.
