We had been on the west coast only a few days. Petal cried and we tried to soothe her but to no avail. Bobby was on the tricom to the ship constantly, but the interference was too great. We could only wait.
The shuttle was overdue and we tried to think that it would arrive in time to save Petal from the heat that consumed her. Her eyes were dead to us, and that brought a feeling... a dread that she whould not return to us.
But she seemed not in harms way; in deaths path.
Instead what we thought as we watched, was that she was talking. But we didn't know who or what she talked to. So we waited.
