Exactly. Russia invaded Afghanistan and the US provided support against them. So what? You make it sound like a bad thing.
And the US, in their usual naievity helped their enemy's enemy, assuming that this must then be a friend.
Indeed, various CIA operatives on the ground (back then) and a few in higher places actually warned the government that sinking 1.000.000.000 dollars into the Mujahadeen probably wasn't such a great idea...
But anything to defeat the Soviet Union was good.
And you know, you can always create new enemies when you need to sell more guns and out-source more contracts...
