the other culture is evil, twisted or a danger for itself.
The same mistake commits the westerner who thinks that way about
the Islamic world than the muslims who do so regarding the western
culture. Both are wrong.
So, the question it's not which culture is "superior" (huge "" ), but how
to coexist together in peace, respect and harmony. Nothing else.
However, if one culture is messing* with the other, the one 'messing'
should understand the receiving one and respect it, not trying to
impose anything. Same applies to westerners in the muslim world as
with muslim in the western world. Those who don't like it or want to
impose their own culture in 'strange soil' should either desist or leave.
The ideal is all to live in harmony and respect, but if the humans prove
to be uncapable of doing that, then we shall treat ourselves like the
violent, intolerant and brutal animals we seem to be; so the option
would be : assimilate or go away.
Period.

Americans doing business in Saudi should refrain from breaching the islamic costumes.
I know what you mean, but I don't call it assimilation but adaptation. Assimilation (before I reach for the dictionary), to me, means that you abandon your own customs and adopt those of your host culture.

I think I am missing your point, and fear it is because I am immersed in an alleged backward culture.

i would not have him decapitated. i would have him sentenced to life in prison. Until he dies. We all know what happens in prison to rapists. A swift death by sword is to good to this guy compared to being sweetheart until he dies.
