International travel is one of the largest exports for the United States, ranking ahead of agricultural
goods and motor vehicles. Purchases of services and goods by foreign travelers, including
expenditures for food, lodging, recreations, and gifts while in the U.S. are counted as U.S. exports.
we used to make plenty, until conservatives allowed our jobs to be outsourced to countries with little or no labor laws. They've also alllowed the corporations themselves to move offshore to avoid paying taxes. Close the loopholes, and enact fair trade policies, and manufacturing will increase, and the deficit will be reduced.

Again, the problem has little to do with statistics and everything to do with politics and ideology.
Testicles, mostly.

Statistics has outstripped religion as the prime producer of modern fiction.
In a recent RHP poll 47% of all those surveyed agreed with that notion, while 33% vehemently disagreed. Of the remaining 20%, 13% were undecided, 5 % said it was the work of the devil while 8% thought Sarah Palin was a fox.

Hoo-ray! If it kills the labor unions, then I'm all for it.

One of those "you can prove ANYTHING with statistics" situations?
No.

It's simple.

The US has 3.2 million fewer manufacturing jobs since 2000.

What is so hard to figure out about that?

One of my 8th grade students told me this. I told him he was wrong. I said we make the advanced items, and we let other countries do the simple manufacturing of consumer goods because we've moved on to the advanced stuff. I said we make computers...umm....weapons...

What else do we make in the USA?

Scientific devices like gas chromatographs maybe?
U.S makes the world a better place.

Um, to be fair....

You Americans allowed your own jobs to be outsourced. Don't blame the conservatives. Why do I say this?

Because you Americans insisted on buying cheap stuff from China because it was cheaper than American made goods. Your own companies could make and sell a product for $50 but a company from China would make a similar one for $29 so you Yanks would buy the Chinese one. Eventually, your American companies went bankrupt since no one was buying their products, OR in order stay in business, they moved the production of their product to China so that they too could sell their product for $29 since labour costs would be the same.

So, before you get all high and mighty, look in the mirror. You guys have only yourselves to blame.

ourselves to blame? for what? If they kept jobs here they would go out of business anyway because no one would buy their more expensive product. Unless every company kept production in the U.S. the public is always going to buy the less expensive product, thus to stay in business you must cut costs.

I suspect that many ostensibly red-blooded American males harbour a guilty desire to have their testicles ground by SP's stilettos. Anal rape by sniper rifle optional.

you got the cart before the horse. Our jobs were shipped overseas, and as a result of our reduced buying power we were forced to buy cheaper goods.

Come on Crowley....value added/productivity is meaningless when the original question is ABOUT ACTUAL JOBS!!!...not product volumes ffs.

The question was whether or not manufacturing jobs are in decline and i pointed out that US has LOST 3.2 Million manufacturing jobs since 2000. They have largely been replaced by service industry jobs. (as shown in the article i posted)

I apologize if you forgot what the point of the conversation was about.

Excuse me for discussing something in parallel to your original post. Christ.
