But it all equalized out because the amount of Stang gas
went up 10% as well.

Sonhouse! You've unwittingly stumbled onto the solution to the world's energy needs! Just connect Stang's yap to a big old pipe and hey presto! good-bye gasoline...unless Bush & his oil-money cronies get wind of it first...

You'd run out of gas the day Bush got what he deserves.

America's demise as a super power will be its excessive spending on military and dependency on oil. It may be accelerated by it's arrogance and promotion of violence as a "solution" whilst possessing WMD's.

please, name any superpower that does not have excessive military spending, and a dependency on oil. We have had this for years, yet we are still on top.

---Before you say China might overtake us. Good for them.. They practically built that country from scratch after WW2, and I would love to see the chinese excel. People deserve more than $0.25 an hour.

This shows that USA has the 29th cheapest gasoline of the OECD (developed) countries.

Maybe alternative energy sources would be pursued at a faster rate if this was not the case.

Then USA wouldn't need to invade other countries for their oil and the environment would be better off.
They should put up taxes on the gas, like they do here in the uk, that would force people to buy cars that are more economical.

Another huge flag of your own peculiar kind of hypocricy.
Probably because the US releases more GHG than any other country on the planet. That'd be a pretty good reason to me. Coupled with the fact that the US, unlike China, has the economic resources to develop such technologies, the way the UK for example are investing in renewables.

$2.17? For it all? I assume you mean per gallon (4.4 litres i.e. ~50c /litre. not very expenive)?

Therein lies the crux of the problem. While Americans, myself included, bitch and whine when gas nears $3.00/gallon, it is still cheap compared to most other nations. The US will not dedicate itself to alternative fuel sources until gasoline tips the $5.00/gallon mark.

Yeah, its about 2.5 times that in the UK. I guess that the average engine diplacement will be between 1.6 and 2 litres in the UK, probably considerably smaller than the US, although I'm finding figures difficult. Here in NZ the price of petrol and diesel are more expensive than the US, but cheaper than the UK, I think cars definately tend to have bigger engines here...

Thats because here in the US we don't have all of the Socialist programs that they have in Europe to pay for. Give it time though because I'm sure Lib's like you will try to push for it.
