One thing is certain: he doesn't want them to be fat slobs like American children.

If he is a dictator, this statement is true.

Sorry to intervene with actual facts, but it wasn't Chavez, it was the tax agency. They are closed for 2 days, cos there are tax irregularities in their accounts.

A non-story.

Exactly.

This sort of thing is very common in countries where the govt. has this sort of authority...seems like communist govts are most common, but could also be in dictatorships etc...

Ridiculous. Don't pay your taxes in any country and see what happens. So far as I know, EVERY country "has this sort of authority".

Yeah, but any question of "irregularities" is usually cleared up without shutting them down. I bet a hefty amount of "La Mordida" was involved to let them open again for business.

That's how Mexico and most Central/South American countries operate. It's an accepted part of their culture.

Please present SOME evidence that this is anything but a ministerial decision of the Venezuelan tax authorities. The assertions right wingers make regarding Venezuela in this forum are almost always baseless and ill-informed.
