The US lost the Vietnam war. What I said was that the US wasn't and couldn't have been militarily defeated. But the fact that it couldn't militarily win caused the leadership to eventually realize that the US should cut its losses. Militarily the US could have stayed until doomsday.

The politicians "tied" the hands of American forces and didn't allow them to use maximum force, the only way to win a war, just as they(politicians) are doing again in Iraq. When you wage war, whether it's declared or a "'police action" as Korea, Vietnam, and now Iraq is, you go in, kick ass, take names, and go home...end of story. Start a draft of 2,000,000 fighting forces and simply use brute force. A sledge hammer gets more noticed than a ball-peen hammer...
