The US lost the Vietnam war. What I said was that the US wasn't and couldn't have been militarily defeated. But the fact that it couldn't militarily win caused the leadership to eventually realize that the US should cut its losses. Militarily the US could have stayed until doomsday.
EDIT: You also denied the US was kicked out of Vietnam.

Ivanhoe's preferred explanation for the Kennedy assassination is that the military or the CIA or somebody in he government shot Kennedy because he was going to withdraw from Vietnam. I pointed out that this is utter nonsense by giving him the relevant facts along with pointing out that Nixon did withdraw from Vietnam and nobody shot him. Ivanhoe has got it in his mind that somehow, someway the Viet Cong militarily defeated the US Army, but can't name a single battle lost by the US in the war.
The truth is as I said; the US couldn't be militarily defeated, but it couldn't militarily prevail either. So eventually the government made the proper, if belated, decision that the war wasn't worth the cost and withdrew. I'm sure we'll get a bunch of moronic comments from Ivanhoe, but that remains the truth no matter how many RFLMSO or whatever crap he writes.

it makes me wonder if the concept of military defeat/success has any useful meaning.
it certainly makes it seem something NOT worth fighting for.
Originally posted by flexmoreIt has little meaning when you are an occupying force; you either think that the cost in lives and other things is worth whatever benefit you derive or you get out (or never get in).
interesting.
