Oh, so you're going to get personal, and involve an innocent member of my family, namely my wife, eh? I'm going to be the "bigger" man than you and not even to respond to your childish behavior. Others will see who the "real" man is...have a nice day...

I don't get personal with RHPer's family members. I did once, apologized, and promised to never do it again...they are not in these arguments; we are! Maybe you should check yourself before you wreck yourself....

I severely doubt that your method would produce an 'end to the story' either.

The US lost the Vietnam war. What I said was that the US wasn't and couldn't have been militarily defeated. But the fact that it couldn't militarily win caused the leadership to eventually realize that the US should cut its losses. Militarily the US could have stayed until doomsday.
Yeah, let's twist again ... like we did last summer ... yeah let's twist again ... like we did last year ........ Oooh and round and round and up and down we goooo again .....

Apparently, October is due to be the US's bloodiest month since Jan 2005.

He has admitted that comparisons with the Vietnam War might not be too far off the mark.
I think the Vietnam war had a better soundtrack.

the music i saw recently (from the american angle) was country.

but maybe the iraqis will make movies about it - though i suspect their soundtrack may be very sad.

These boots are made for walking,
And that's just what they'll do,
One of these days these boots are gonna,
Walk all over you.

IvanhoeWorld is a truly strange place to be. The discussion he is referencing is here: http://www.chessatwork.com/board/showthread.php?threadid=51024&page=12

Ivanhoe's preferred explanation for the Kennedy assassination is that the military or the CIA or somebody in he government shot Kennedy because he was going to withdraw from Vietnam. I pointed out that this is utter nonsense by giving him the relevant facts along with pointing out that Nixon did withdraw from Vietnam and nobody shot him. Ivanhoe has got it in his mind that somehow, someway the Viet Cong militarily defeated the US Army, but can't name a single battle lost by the US in the war.

The truth is as I said; the US couldn't be militarily defeated, but it couldn't militarily prevail either. So eventually the government made the proper, if belated, decision that the war wasn't worth the cost and withdrew. I'm sure we'll get a bunch of moronic comments from Ivanhoe, but that remains the truth no matter how many RFLMSO or whatever crap he writes.

interesting.
it makes me wonder if the concept of military defeat/success has any useful meaning.
it certainly makes it seem something NOT worth fighting for.

It has little meaning when you are an occupying force; you either think that the cost in lives and other things is worth whatever benefit you derive or you get out (or never get in).
