Good to see you back, Mike. Things are pretty good; I'm off to Maine next weekend, which will be new and different anyway. What's shaking?

Not too much. Getting old and no wiser. Having a pretty good time though. Got my wife off to spain for a month.Just dropped her at the airport this morning. So I am taking a "vacation" too. I hate to travel though, so she has to manage with her mom and sister.

Maine is good. You can get some exercise on the bike.

Wife off to Spain for a month?

Everybody, party at Mike's!

Whereabouts in Spain?

Impressive remembering my cycling fascination. I haven't touched the thing in more than a year, but your comment might tip my indecision about selling it back to the 'keep it' side. Getting on it after another year living on Red Bull and cigarettes is going to hurt, though 😞.

LOL

Vitamins "R" & "B" and "C" eh?

Yea. That sounds painful actually. Brings a new meaning to "decarbonization" though. Peddle a mile. Light a cig. Peddle a mile, have a beer. Peddle a mile and just say "f&c^it!" and find the nearest pub... grin. (svw has been there on this one)

As to the party at da crib,

fo'fu--kin' get it!

I don't do clean ups. Plus -- all the noise, laughter and puking at this stage of life just makes me shift from one foot to the other ,nervously bobbing about trying to look like i'm indifferent and/or remotely interested. This isn't a thing anyone wants to witness.

anyway. Everything good with you? Got any good math on the mind?

The deccan traps was the one that created about a third of india, way way bigger. it was what is known as a basalt flood. litteraly a huge fissure in the ground opens up and thousands of cubic kilometers of lava pours out. Their are another two I know of, one happend in siberia, and another in antartica but I don't know which one was bigger. There is a theory which says that they can be caused by a massive metorite impact on the oposite side of the planet, and the fissures are created by the coliding shockwaves. both the siberian and indian eruptions have impact crater candidates and coincide with mass extinctions. (the indian one is 65 mln yrs ago) the antartic one is postulated to have occured when antartica broke off from south america and bechame a seperate continent. how ever I beleive that the jury is still out on both of these theories. The human near extinction you mention is beleived to have been due to a super volcano or caldera volcano. orders of magnitude larger than an ordinary volcano and orders of mag smaller than a basalt flood.

Actually, I've just wrapped up a paper on some things to do with non-Euclidean geometry. I have to give a talk on it next week, so since the talk is geared towards well-read non-specialists, RHP may be a good place to test my analogies and such. I'll start a thread on the subject when I've got my thoughts in order; Sunday night, perhaps.
