I have often heard people say that certain politicians don't have enough charisma to get elected to the presidency. Many of these politicians are long time incumbents in congress. If they lack charisma, how did they become congressmen in the first place? Is the bar really that much lower for congress than the presidency? I'm not sure if they really know what charisma is. Maybe they mean charm but they say charisma instead thinking the words are interchangeable.

What makes a politician charismatic and how important is having it to be an effective leader?

Is it possible for a president to overcome a lame duck status if he/she has enough charisma?

Take Barney Frank of Nancy Pelosi, for example. Those communist voting districts are the only voting districts on the planet that would elect them. Anywhere else in the US and they would be toast. All they have to do is win the Democrat nod to run. After that, they are in. No Republican could ever win in their district, even though watching Barney Frank is like watching a Looney Tunes character.

Saying somebody doesn't have the charisma to get elected is just a euphemism for "he is too truthful to win".

Being indoctrinated by propaganda with so many falsehoods makes the truth sound strange and crazy.

Yes. That is why a group known as the Tea Party peacefully petitioning for governemnt not to run trillion dollar deficits are the ones seen as extremists.

I don't know much about Barney's district, but Pelosi's district, mostly San Francisco, Marin, and San Mateo Counties, are one of the wealthiest districts in the country. Who knew communists were so wealthy?

Congratulations, you have disagreed with Whodey's world view, your Communist party membership card is in the post.

The most probable reason for presidential candidates needing more charisma than congressional candidates is the fact that the former have to appeal to the less politically dogmatic floating voter. Whilst the latter tend to campaign on more local issues, which may transcend party allegiances.

They are not wealthy, they just artificially inflate the dollar. It's the progressive way.

The pentagon does most of the ground work, the President just witnesses the capitulation ceremony.

Pelosi (D) called on Obama to respect state's rights.

Given Obama's pot smoking past, he seems like a bit of a traitor to guys like me.
