Those estimates are based on the assumption that the virus is left unchecked.
They can come down dramatically if action is taken early, either by mitigation or suppression methods.
Each has their own merits.
Which is ironic since there are posters in this forum still trying to downplay this pandemic.
And then dispute the estimates that may actually come true if people like Trump, and by extension the Trumpskulls, keep saying:
- this is a hoax perpetrated by the left
- this will go away and disappear by magic
- a president has a hunch. And he's a pretty smart guy.
- some malaria vaccine will magically make this go away. Maybe tomorrow he will say "take 2 aspirin and go back to work"
You laugh at the estimates that may well come true if the president keeps arguing with members of the media while the entire global television audience is watching.

I have no idea regarding her politics, but according to your article Persichilli started out as a nurse and has been in the field for over 50 years. Her office started making contingency plans for dealing with this virus in January, while the Feds, led by the Donald, were downplaying the risk until a few weeks ago.

US population 330m => 7 million dead
World population 7.8b => 164 million dead
