the writer nailed it here..

"Pres. Biden isn’t providing much leadership on such issues. In addition, when it comes to countering powerful dictatorial nations like China or Russia, who present palpable threats, is it partly because they have too much on him? Not at all impossible, despite media hush jobs here. Though not many sedulous readers of the New York Times or CNN watchers seem to know or care."

American Liberalism is doing just fine. Joe Biden and the Democrats pushed badly needed COVID 19 relief and Infrastructure bills through Congress despite almost total opposition from the GOP (things the Trump administration couldn't do) There are jobs aplenty, wall street financial markets are at or near all time highs, and wages for the working class are finally beginning to rise. Yet according to the GOP, America is officially a torture chamber, spinning down to the depths of hell.

Your article from the Niagra Gazette (circulation 10,700 on its best day) was nothing more than a feeble attempt to slam modern day liberals as white hating dictators, who don't have the values of past liberals. Sorry - I'm not buying it.

Liberalism hasn't changed in 100 years. They've always wanted to spend their way to freedom. Conservatism abandoned their entire philosophy.

I spent almost 20 there and over 25 here.

Here is worse in my opinion.

I'm the only one on this forum qualified to talk about both countries 😉

The European guys will disagree of course.
They think they know best 🙄

My mother was Canadian.
I've spent quite a bit of time there.
Fact is; you've been expelled from The USA,
and probably won't be welcomed back.
You've got no dogs in this fight,
you 'wanna complain?
Tell us of all the terrible things going on in

erm...from your hatchet...erm article..

Given that they emanate from a totalitarian dictatorship. What part of that don’t we get? Would we have been as nice to those coming from the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany, and in such numbers, during the ‘30s? I think not.

When successive American administrations starting with Nixon, started to build diplomatic and economic ties with China, what was that all about? Pure western altruism was it?

No, American corporations made billions out of trade with China and made even more by setting up business there such that over a 40 year period where did all American high intensive low skilled jobs go?
I'll give you a hint, it wasn't Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union was it?

So what did American Universities do as this economic relationship grew? They negotiated for increasing numbers of China's newly well heeled students to come to the States to get an education, which was/is a great cash cow for American Tertiary Institutions. So did China create the problem of American giants like Apple making all their products for around $300 bucks in China (yet retailing in the US for over a thousand bucks?) Did you think that Chinese families who started to grow their wealth as a result of trade with America were not going to spend their US backed dollars back in the States in the best non depreciating way possible, ie- get an education, or that the educational institutions wouldn't lobby government to open doors as wide as possible for these students so that they could recycle those US dollars back into the US economy? But apparently they were/are here just to steal intellectual property! And yet during the time that they would engage in tertiary study, you don't think that the increase in knowledge wouldn't act as a two way street to improve the knowledge and capacity of US based research institutions?

Its this backward anti-science, irrational, knee-jerk reactionary xenophobia that will lead to the collapse of the USA. There was a time when America was that city on a hill, when it embraced science and technology and was willing (to quote Star Trek) to boldly go where no man had gone before. And now look at youse....Alt right populism says you can gargle covid away, or Trump says bleach could knock it out... This from the people that were first on the moon!

Maybe that's the problem. The intellectual property that allowed America to land on the moon arrived post WW2 via operation paper clip, and American rocket science owes much to the Nazi war machine and their top scientists and engineers. How much intellectual property came America's way as a result of that carve up, but its all about the Chinese students today?

So there we have it. The real problem. American insanity is driven by a national insecurity. An intellectual embarrassment that some of the greatest advances and transformational wealth generating industries was not as a result of the intellect of those corporations founders. Like Bill Gates. Did not program a line of code of any note, yet translated the work of someone else at a cost of a meagre $50k into an industry that has ushered in a paradigm shift in the way society operates now. Because the one thing Gates is good at is litigation and making sure that everything came with a contract. And where was his true genius? He made certain that he was born into a family where his mother was a board member of IBM who was able to lobby the chairman of IBM into licensing his OS on their machines and everyone else followed. That's the cleverest thing one of your greatest titans of industry ever did, was to be born into the right family. No wonder then you would be paranoid about intellectual property being stolen from the country. That's your hustle!

Well said.....
And that's the way things turn out
anymore. The Republican Party advances
no agenda, no ideas, no proposals.
All they ever do is oppose, obstruct and filibuster,
the efforts put forth by 'the loyal opposition.'
I'll try this again.
Can anyone tell me of any proposal, or idea
put forth by The Republicans that was designed
to help the regular folks? ANYTHING AT ALL?
