With yet another round of elections coming, I have to ask, what exactly is a moderate? The term moderate is thrown around to describe someone who is electable. All others need not apply.
So how does one achieve the label moderate? It seems to me that those who buck the status quo are the ones labeled moderate.
So for those who support the highest deficit spending in world history at around $3 trillion a year, and a government that spies on its citizens like we are all part of an Orwellian novel, and a government that has wars going on across the globe with troops in over 70 countries, and a government that is so pro-abortion that monsters like Dr. Gosnell who go unmolested for about 3 decades while they kill viable infants and target poor black mothers for subpar care due to lack of government regulation and interest so as not to hinder the abortionists movement, I'd say that what we have today is an extremist radical government. However, anyone so much as opposing one of the policies would be labeled a radical extremist at one or the other end of the political spectrum.
Oh, how I hate the state run media. ðŸ˜

Most of them are women, raising kids, while the men are busy pontificating on their one-track agendas.

They are the type to champion PRISM because it helped foil a terrorist plot or two. Then again, just think if they jailed us all, they would have stopped the bombing in Boston as well.

A “moderate” Democrat is unlikely to win the NY-5 primary anytime soon. A “moderate” Texas Senate candidate lost the primary there just last year. The fall of “moderate” Congresspeople has led to one of the most divided, least competitive Congresses in history. And just in case you were referring only to presidential candidates—Mitt Romney was a “moderate” candidate once upon a time, but not on the night of the election. And he still lost.

More importantly, just to be clear, politicians can be firmly partisan in their ideologies while still being moderate in the manner or style with which they choose to govern.

Its interesting that some of what you list as 'extremist' are the shared policies of both major parties in the US ie what both parties agree on.
However, anyone so much as opposing one of the policies would be labeled a radical extremist at one or the other end of the political spectrum.
No, what gets you labelled a 'radical extremist' is the language you use in expressing your opposition. You for example are clearly a radical extremist. You always paint anything you disagree with in the worst possible light and recommend extreme action for correcting it with no room for compromise.

On the one hand you say the Taliban are extremist, but also indicate that I'm an extremist. LOL.
A moderate is someone who accepts the elite consensus and agrees to confine the scope of his activities to avenues deemed acceptable by the elite consensus. This consists of attempts to modify various aspects of the elite consensus without overturning it. An "extremist" is someone who neither accepts the elite consensus, nor agrees to confine his scope of activity to areas it deems acceptable.

The way you talk politics is remarkably similar to the way the Mahmoud Ahmadinejad sounds. You exaggerate so much that everybody knows you are talking complete nonsense, and you know they know.
The post that was quoted here has been removedWell you don't become president without being an astute politician. Of course I don't think the elections in Iran were particularly free and fair.
In Zambia, elections are about choosing the least terrible option. Do you choose the guy in power, who you know is corrupt, but you do know, or do you choose the new guy, who might turn out to be worse? Or do you choose based on who is most likely to benefit you personally, but ruin the country in the long term? Politics where you have only two options is really not that much about about direct appeal.
