It's not the same spectrum at all.

Narcissism is NPD, while sociopathy and psychopathy are both ASPDs.

All personality disorders to be sure, but NPD is a world away from ASPDs.

And I have no way of knowing how many politicians fall into which disorder without interacting with them, and neither does anyone else.

If you have to ask, you can't afford it. 😉

Thank you for the clarification. I had seen my (incorrect) notion mentioned a few time in news articles -- but I'm also aware that for decades we have had unqualified ninnies pumping out web content for a buck.

[Perhaps interestingly, I had clicked on the notification to let you know that I generally don't read your replies to my posts (for historical reasons).]

P.S. -- For the sake of others and in case you end up writing research articles, the common practice is to write the full term followed by the abbreviation in parenthesis during its first mention.

For @sonhouse: I think she meant NPD = narcissistic personality disorder, and ASPD = anti-social personality disorder. For me (as a lay person) it was interesting news to learn that these are considered widely different categories.

"and in case you end up writing research articles"

I don't need to get into specifics, but this is hilarious since I've written many research articles for various courses I've taken. I wasn't aware I needed to write a research article for a forum on a chess website. Interestingly enough, I have switched my degree program from Ph.D. (which is what most go for who plan to go into research) to Psy.D. (which is more geared towards people who want to go into private practice). I feel that research doesn't help let you get into the nuts and bolts of psychotherapy. I'd rather have my feet on the ground helping people than get shuttered away in some research college ivory tower. Talking about it isn't doing it.

"For @sonhouse: I think she meant NPD = narcissistic personality disorder, and ASPD = anti-social personality disorder."

This is correct. Fortunately people with these disorders don't usually get hired for jobs that are in the public eye and subject to public scrutiny. They wouldn't last long. Unfortunately, those like Donald Trump get so much public support from people you wouldn't listen to at a dinner party in the middle of a hurricane (you know, where it's not practical to just leave). People like this are scary when they gain control of government. They just don't care how much their words affect others.

This is also hilarious and a bit misrepresentational. In your previous reincarnation here (where you actually presented yourself more as an actual human being), I came to your defense more often than not against your harshest critics in these forums. I still maintain that you are no longer the same person you were then (at least as self-represented in these forums).

However, when writing for readers outside of your field, you could have defined your acronyms or initializations at first mention. That would not involve a full article on whatever topic.

As for the rest, shouldn't you resolve your own clever-alcoholic and whatever other problems before you try to help anyone else?

I gave you the benefit of the doubt. There is this thing called "the Internet" just outside your own consciousness, you know. No doubt, naysayers like you would have accused me of "talking down" to others. I'm not new to this, I've been here a long time.

And perhaps you would like to get over your own feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem before trying to judge others. I've recovered from more problems than you'll ever have. So stop trying to tell the pilot how to fly the plane.

So, you're another Trump but a little younger?

Again, not listening to anything that has come before.

Your disconnect is obvious.

How will you ever manage to write a Ph.D. dissertation if you can only string together a few snippy words at a time?

Your sentences continue to be short and snippy.
