OK - Trump wants to make America self-sufficient and is putting huge tariffs on imports.

What would happen if every Country said "we ban all American imports and we ban all exports to America".

Could America survive on its own?

I reckon the rest of the world could

It was good to see Jamie Dimon of JP Morgan say that he would be in favor of "America First" as long as that didn't mean "America Alone".

Speaking as a native American (descended from immigrants), I think a lot of our people have become incomprehensibly stunted, delusional, and rabid -- and that whatever advances we might have made in the 60s and 70s are lost to time.

But maybe a period of American isolationism might provide some practical reinstruction re: obvious fundamental economic and trade observations from centuries ago, as well as Adam Smith's hope that commerce could be a civilizing influence.

Wait... we "import" stuff? Like what? ๐Ÿ˜†

I thought global trade was when our government sends you cartridges and destroyers and food aid you say "Thanks but we need more?" ๐Ÿ˜†

What exactly do you think America needs from other countries to survive?

Put another way if all countries refuse to trade with America [which is purely hypothetical, because it aint happening], how will America suffer?

America imports above all talent: physicists, rocket scientists, computer programmers, etc. America’s universities are full of bright foreign students. But soon will not be, if Trump has his way.

Other countries would stop buying American products. It’s not really a question of whether America could survive on its own production, but whether it would survive without selling its surplus production abroad.
