At what stage does a bad person change to being an evil one?

Is a bank robber bad and a bank robber who kills a guard evil?

Is a drug user bad, but a dealer evil?

What do you all think of as evil?

In my (drunken) opinion

Evil is a vague word, we all have our own level at which we label someone as evil.
For me it's someone who commits a crime that seriously offends me, the type you read in a newspaper and shake your head at in disgust, but i would be quicker to brand someone as evil who commits a crime against children.

It depends, what is your definition of evil?

To me evil is somebody who goes to the pub, gets drunk and drives home!

I.E. somebody who does acts that are against society generally that is done with a willful intent to harm or kill.

I doubt hells full of drunk drivers to me that's more stupidity,i bet nearly if not all drunk drivers that have an accident that harms, kills, others regret that decision to drive drunk. Evil has no remorse

I think evil people enjoy causing others to suffer. People with a perverse lust for power.

Bad people are selfish but don't enjoy seeing others suffer even though they don't really care if they do.

How do you define perverse? Is it ok to have some power? How much is too much?

Are you saying that anyone who isn't proactively good is bad?
Can you be good and selfish?

Perverse is when you intend to hurt people that have done no harm to you.

People can be good and selfish because people are not necessarily selfish to everybody. A person could care about his daughter and still be evil to others, but that does not make him good.

You used perverse as in a perverse lust for power. I don't see wanting power as necessarily being evil. It has to do with having a dominant personality. Typically evil people have one, but so do charitable people who simply have a take charge attitude.

As for being selfish I think everyone should be. It's what your selfish about, how you're selfish, and how selfish you are that might make you evil.

What about people like the guy who used to send bombs in the mail to CEO's of companies who were not "green"? In his mind, he was ridding society of "evil" people. Was he evil? In other words, is it lawful to render evil for evil in the name of bettering society? Does intent trump outcome?

I think one of the major causes of evil is when people are eager to label somebody or something as "evil" -- and in their zeal to wipe out this evil, they cause lots of needless pain, suffering, and destruction. And since you can't compromise with "evil", rivals (individuals or large parties or nations) are unable to reach peace agreements that would benefit both sides

I think this is what Jesus was getting at when he stressed the importance of "loving your enemies" -- and the idea of letting he who is without sin "cast the first stone".

I think describing a drug-user as evil is too generalizing, it depends on what drugs the person takes.
