Just a question out there for you political junkies. Where is the leadership within the Republican party? In fact, are the even distinguishable from the Democratic party any more? Are we down to a one party system? Heck, have we always been one and not realized it?
Originally posted by dystoniacI just got to thinking, what are the differences any more between the two parties other than issues such as abortion or gay marriage? What's funny is that the courts will decide the issues of abortion/gay marriage so who the heck cares what the politicians think about it anyway? As for the rest, we see Bush favor bail outs and such and we Obama doing the same. It just seems both parties are in favor of spending us into oblivion and both have no real answers as to how to handle the current economic crisis. Perhaps the only difference is that the Dems will raise our taxes in addition to spending us into the ground. You might say that Obama wants out of Iraq so perhaps the spending will stop their but he also wants to escalate the war in Afghanistan.

As for the bending over bit, I think the tax payers are the ones bending over, not those in Washington. Both parties are equally responsible for the economic crisis and I think perhaps it was manufactured. If you think about it, both government and big business have put a gun to the heads of the tax paying citizens by saying, "Give us your money or else....". Now with the mounting debt the tax payers will be the ones enslaved further to bear the burden of the mounting debt. In fact, I think that is the goal. Those in government and big business want slaves, not equals. After all, slaves make better servants.
I guess what makes me the most ill is all the pomp and circumstance revolving around the inauguration. Sure, we have a black president and yes history has been made in this respect. Now give me a party hat and blow horn so I can party the right way!! However, nothing really has changed in Washington as near as I can tell. The same people who over saw the credit crisis coming and did NOTHING about it and the ones that OK'd the bail outs did so without holding those who received the money accountable for doing the "right thing" with the funds are still in Washington. All that has really changed is a new president who just happened to be a Congressman himself with the rest of them.
Sorry, I don't mean to be a kill joy for all you Obama fanatics. Enjoy, because I think that perhaps it is the last opportunity for the citizens to get exited about an elected official. Perhaps if the elect a woman president or a latino there may be a similar interest but I doubt it.
Originally posted by whodeyI'm with you on the pomp. We started this country to get away from all the pomp and opulence in Europe. We have sufficiently blah government buildings, but this ceremony (and many before it) is way out of hand.

If Obomber turns out to be a really, really good Socialist, I think that the US has seen it's last election. The left doesn't really believe in those you know. Obomber went to pay homage to Kadaffi Duck and loved Castro and Chavez... until it wasn't good for his image.
But "the people" get what they deserve. I am rather looking forward to hyper-inflation and martial law. 😉😀

Originally posted by whodeyI think there are some differences. The Democrats seem to want more government intervention, while the G O P wants to privatize everything. Democrats seem more interested in protecting the enviornment while the G O P views air, earth, and water as just "resources" The Democrats seem less interested in a go it alone national security policy, while the G O P wants to be the worlds policeman. The Democrats and the G O P tend to structure themselves the same way, but have different ideas on how things should be run. 😏
