By the year 2050 whites will be a minority in America."
These phrases inspire extremely divergent responses from liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans.
Liberals hear those three phrases and are (mostly) pleased and inspired because they view America's ethnic and racial diversity as a source of strength and proof that the country's creed is transcendent and inclusive.
Conservatives — and especially Trumpists — hear those three phrases and are filled with dread, anger and fear. While they often hide their sentiments behind words such as "tradition" and "culture," on a fundamental level, white conservatives believe that to be a "real American" requires a person to be first and foremost white and Christian.
To all those here in the latter camp, I have 3 words for you: "Get Over It!" The Lilly white Christian America of 1957 is long gone, and despite your wailings, it's not coming back.
I recently returned from an OTB chess tournament, fully 40% of the players were Asian, about 20% of India - Pakistani decent, 10% black, and about 30% white. It was a nice tournament. Everyone was polite, there were no bad vibes anywhere. You folks on the right wing need to calm down and and accept the fact that Donald Trump is playing on your fears, fears that "they" are going to take your lifestyle away, "they" are going to spread disease, destruction, and other unspeakable things all through this fine nation. This is the same tactic that a little guy named Adolf Schicklgruber used in the 1920's and 1930's. These people you fear, are doctors, librarians, accountants, business managers, construction workers, and most important - Americans.

@mchill
Christians are already in a minority.
Religion is increasingly irrelevant as human advancement outpaces the ability of the religious morality groups to keep up.
I've seen some bible punchers bellow "we're going to take back our country" while pounding the pulpit.
2 thoughts:
- take back from who ? Americans ?
- why "take back America" ? Because they can't win it back ?
@athousandyoung saidYou mean the South Americans mostly are which is true.
Most of the immigrants ARE Christian.
@mchill saidI've been writing about this here forever. It's the same old thing we've been seeing for years, the fear of "the other" being pounded into white America by conservative talk radio, then conservative TV masquerading as "news", and finally by a narcissist president thinking he can command all their love by voicing their fears and telling them he'll take care of it. White America is being used by the far-right, and they can't even see it happening in front of their faces.

@contenchess saidWhile there are a lot of pagans among the Mexicans (Santa Muerte) and Haitians (Voudou) most are still Christian.

@athousandyoung saidI was referring to the Asians, Hindus and Muslims etc.

I think the only Christian immigrants are the South Americans.
@mchill saidSo you went to a chess tournament where 70% of the players were...whatever, and whites were a minority and everyone was cool towards you?

That's great. Now go to a bar, walk down a street, live in a city or country where that's the case and get back to us.

The Hindus are indeed pagan.
Hardly any Muslims immigrating these days.
