I am saddened to hear of your and your kid’s brushes with racism. It hurts. Taking neighbors to court over single incidents doesn’t change their shriveled minds, alienates them more, and costs a pile of money in legal fees. I can see taking Alex Jones to court — that was a different league altogether.
@sonhouse saidThat is sad.
We went through the same here in Pennsylvania, adopted twin boys, half Puerto Recan and half Columbian.
So they got harrassed by cops starting when they were 11, like Jonathan riding a new bike I bought him up to school nearby and a local cop pulls him over, just him, a lot of other bike riders there, but white. WHERE DID YOU GET THAT BIKE?
My dad gave it to me. We'll see ...[text shortened]... d take, obvious racial discrimination, maybe proved in court would curtail such disgusting behavior.
Systemic racism, like the cop showed, should be eliminated by addressing the police unions. Even if it is only a few individuals, there is no way to change culture unless everyone is made to feel the pain. Just tie pay raises to the desired behavior. Then they will start 'policing' themselves and weeding out the bad members.
Endemic racism, like the neighbor, doesn't have an easy solution.
EDIT: It looks bad for public employees to go on strike because their pay raise was withheld because the department was 'overly racist'.
@moonbus saidAlex Jones should be in jail with 100% black prisoners.

@moonbus saidYou are, again, making bad assumptions. There is no evidence to suggest that 47 out of 48 searches are against black people.
70% of those arrested for shoplifting were White; I'll accept that as established. The more pertinent stat from the link you provided is that only 1 in 48 incidents leads to an arrest. The obvious conclusion is that house detectives are stopping and searching the wrong people in 47 out of 48 cases. Who do you think those 47 other people were? Could it be they were wrongly 'pr ...[text shortened]... s? Naw, that'd be .....
blatant systemic racism. Can't believe that, now can we? [/sarcasm]
If they are only searching 1 white person for every 48 searches, then to get to 70% of the people arrested be white people would mean those searches are staggeringly accurate at catching white people shoplifting and incredibly inaccurate at catching black people shopping.
